Allowing Apathy

October 26, 2015 Thoughts

A few years ago I was at a very low point in my life.  It was when I was at that point that I made the decision to change.  Life has certainly changed in a big way for me since then, and it is knowing that it is possible, knowing that how we think can change everything about our circumstances, that drove me on to become a life coach, it fuels my desire to help others so that they don’t have to wait till they are at their very lowest point to make the decision to change things for the better, or worse to give up altogether, as the growing rate of suicide in this country shows.  Sometimes it is difficult to keep the passion burning in the face of apathy.

Only 18% of the population will even look at personal growth, as a way to change their lives.  It is so ingrained in us, starting from our parents and then reinforced at school, that life is the way it is, and we fit in to make the best of it, or we will suffer the consequences.  Life as we know it, is the sum total of the beliefs of the majority of people that we know or hang around with.  For many that is their comfort zone, and even if they don’t particularly like their life, or assume that it is the fault of politicians, or big bankers, or their parents, or anybody else that their life sucks, they are comfortable in that position.  It is so much easier to blame others than to change something about themselves.

My lesson at the moment is to learn to be ok with that.  To allow others the freedom to choose their comfort zone, to choose apathy.  Change only happens when people choose it for themselves, and knowing what the trigger will be for that is unique to every individual.  All I can do, and will continue to do is to live my truth, hopefully be an inspiration to some, and stop banging my head against the brick wall of apathy.  That only hurts me.  For the 18% that do actively seek answers to changing themselves to change their lives, I say “Rock On”.   Hang in there, because life can be exhilarating.
