3 Things You Can Do to Change Your Habit of Thought about Happiness

HappinessDo you know you can be happy now?  Happiness is a choice that we can make at any time.   From childhood though we are taught that happiness is a by-product of events.  If certain things don’t happen in your life then you can’t or even shouldn’t be happy.  Are you one of the millions of people who tell themselves they will be happy when; they get more money, find the love of their life or win the lottery.  You are always looking to either a future or an external circumstance to provide that thing you need to be happy.

External events and circumstances can certainly give you that buzz of happiness.  I am sure millions of people in America were happy when Trump was elected.  They finally felt heard.  What of the weeks and months ahead though as nothing actually changes about their circumstances?  Will they still be happy?

  1. Make a conscious decision to be happy now.  Encourage the feeling by thinking of all the things you can be grateful for.  It is scientifically proven that you cannot be thinking of things you are grateful for and be depressed at the same time.
  2. Go for a walk out in nature.  Giving yourself time to be immersed in nature lowers your blood pressure, relieves some stress and releases Dopamine to your brain.  Sharing the experience doubles the affect as it releases oxytocin as well.  Working out at the gym in a great team environment can do the same thing.
  3. Do something that you love that challenges you a bit.  Doing something that you love that is just outside of your comfort zone and ability can put you into a state of flow.  This is the optimum working point of the brain.  In flow all outside circumstances cease to exist.  Time stops or slows down.  Your whole body responds to fully focus into what you are doing.  It feels great.

Happiness Doing one or all three of these things every single day for a month will create a new habit of happiness in your system.  It will re-write all the old habits of thought about happiness, and make happiness your default setting.

Can you imagine a life of happiness?  No more waiting for people, things or circumstances to be just right to be happy.  You can choose to be happy now.  Choosing happiness now increases your chance of making not only good but great decisions for yourself.  Raise your energy level.  Attract more good things into your life.  Almost 100% of the population want, ‘happiness’, and you can have it now.
